Overview

The department is well equipped with specialist ICT suites containing interactive whiteboards, printing and scanning facilities. There is a wide selection of software available including Microsoft Office and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite. ICT enables students to develop their skills in preparation for the world of work where technology is rapidly evolving. Students use ICT tools to find, explore, analyse, exchange, and present information responsibly, in a unique way and without bias. They learn how to use and manipulate ICT which encourages the use of initiative as well as independent and experiential learning. Students learn to make informed judgements and to consider the implications of the uses of ICT.

What qualification will I get?

(TLM) Ingots Level 2 in IT User Skills OR GCSE ICT

How will I be assessed?

The (TLM) Ingots Level 2 in IT User Skills course is made up of 5 units over 2 years.  There is also one exam lasting 1hr. This question paper comprises of multiple choice, short answers and extended response questions. All units of work are practical and consist of the following: IT Security for Users, Presentation Software, Spreadsheet Software, Using Email, Improving Productivity Using IT.  These units are designed to provide you with the opportunity to build a portfolio of evidence relating to real vocational situations. This will be assessed by the teacher and externally moderated by the examination board

What can this course lead to?

The TLM Ingots Level 2 in IT User Skills Qualification has been designed to accredit candidates’ achievements in a modern and practical way that is relevant to the workplace. They do not certificate competence on the job but are work-related qualifications which will support progression into further job-related training or education. These qualifications specifically aim to:

  • Develop learner's knowledge and understanding of the Information and Communication Technology sector.
  • Develop learner's skills, knowledge and understanding in contexts that are directly relevant to employment situations, thereby enhancing their employability within the Information and Communication Technology sector.
  • Develop learner's ability to work autonomously and effectively in an Information and Communication Technology context.
  • Enable learners to develop knowledge and understanding in specialist areas of Information and Communication. Technology, and demonstrate the skills needed to participate in the operation and development of ICT specific or ICT non-specific business organisations.
  • Encourage progression by assisting in the development of skills, knowledge and understanding that learners will need to access further or higher education programmes or occupational training on a full-time or part-time basis.
  • Encourage progression by assisting in the development of skills, knowledge and understanding that learners will need to enter employment or enhance their current employment status.
