Overview

Business studies is taught at Key Stage 4 and provides a progression route for students wishing to pursue business related careers.

KEY STAGE 4

GCSE Applied Business

This course engages students in the study of business and develops them as effective, independent thinkers. Student will learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace settings. It provides a good basis for more advanced study in the subject.

Students will undertake two units of study:

Unit 1 Investigating how business work

This unit involves looking at businesses including what they are and what they do. Students will examines how businesses are organised and the importance of stakeholders. Students will research one national and one local business to compare and contrast them.

Unit 2 Financial records

In this unit students will investigate the flow of financial documents within a business and methods of business payments. They will also examine the nature and importance of financial statements.

Assessment - 3 pieces of coursework completed as a controlled assessment. This makes up 60% of the grade. Unit 2 has an exam which makes up 40% of the grade.
